Excerpt from OC Racing
Thrustmaster has officially revealed the T-GT III, its latest Gran Turismo racing wheel and a major departure from the T-GT hardware that came before it. The new system moves away from a belt-driven wheel base in favor of Thrustmaster’s newer Direct Axial Drive technology while retaining the Gran Turismo-specific controls and features the series is known for.
The T-GT III will work with both PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, and arrives as Thrustmaster once again becomes an official partner of the Gran Turismo World Series.

Direct Axial Drive Comes to the T-GT
The biggest change is underneath the wheel. Previous T-GT systems relied on belt-driven force feedback, while the T-GT III uses the same general Direct Axial Drive philosophy introduced with the Thrustmaster T598.
The new base produces 5 Nm of constant torque, with Thrustmaster claiming an overshoot capability of up to 10 Nm. That extra headroom is designed to reduce force feedback saturation during sudden peaks while maintaining the relatively fast response that has become one of the main selling points of the Direct Axial Drive system.
On paper, this puts the T-GT III much closer to Thrustmaster’s newer generation of hardware rather than simply being an updated T-GT II.
Gran Turismo Gets Dedicated Haptic Effects
Thrustmaster is also continuing the Gran Turismo-specific feedback that helped distinguish the previous T-GT wheels. The T-GT III combines its Direct Axial Drive motor with Harmony high-frequency torque technology to produce additional haptic effects inside Gran Turismo 7.
Two dedicated effects have already been confirmed. Gear Jolt creates a physical response during gear changes, while Engine Roar allows the chassis to resonate in relation to engine RPM.
Thrustmaster also says the system will continue receiving software and firmware updates alongside future Gran Turismo Spec updates, suggesting the GT-specific integration could continue developing after launch.
The Familiar T-GT Wheel Returns
The bundle includes the familiar Gran Turismo-branded T-GT steering wheel, complete with a leather finish and four rotary encoders already mapped for Gran Turismo controls.
That means the wheel itself remains recognizable for anyone coming from a T-GT or T-GT II. The much larger change is happening behind it, with the new motor system bringing the…
