Home Golf Simulator Space Requirements: Ceiling Height, Width, and Depth

Before buying golf simulator gear, measure the room. Space is the biggest deal-breaker for home golf setups. You need enough ceiling height to swing safely, enough width for your stance and club path, and enough depth for the launch monitor, ball flight, net, or impact screen. Many golfers are most comfortable with about 10 feet of ceiling height, 12 to 15 feet of width, and 15 to 18 feet of depth. Some setups can work in less space, especially camera-based launch monitors that sit near the ball. Radar-based systems often need more depth because they track the ball as it flies toward the screen or net.

Ceiling height is personal. A shorter golfer with a flatter swing may fit in a lower room, while a taller golfer swinging driver may need more clearance. Do not guess. Take your longest club and make slow practice swings in the exact hitting spot. Check the ceiling, lights, garage rails, fans, shelves, and anything else nearby. Width matters for both comfort and safety. Right-handed and left-handed golfers may need different hitting positions. If both will use the simulator, plan for extra room or a launch monitor setup that can handle both without constant repositioning. Depth depends heavily on technology. Some launch monitors sit behind the golfer, some beside the ball, and some overhead. The net or impact screen also needs space behind it so the ball can be absorbed safely. A simulator that barely fits on paper may feel cramped in real life. Leave room for a stance mat, side netting, computer, projector, seating, and walking space if possible.
