AKD Studio, a developer best known for releasing the Gulfstream 550 and 650, has recently shared new previews of their upcoming project, Warsaw Modlin Airport for X-Plane, serving Warsaw as a hub for low-cost operators, with over 1,7 million passenger operations in 2025.

Opened in 1937, the airport was originally intended as a military airport for the Polish Air Force, but first saw use by the Luftwaffe in 1940, then by the Red Army Air Force. Only after the war did the Polish Air Force begin using the airport, and it was operational until 2000, when it was closed for operations due to the poor condition of the runway and navigational aids.

A couple of years later, however, the airport was given a second chance, this time to serve as a low-cost hub and replace the previously closed terminal used by LCCs at Warsaw’s main airport, Warsaw Chopin. The airport had been officially registered as a civil airport with the aviation authorities in 2010, and welcomed its first arrival in July 2012.

The beginning wasn’t smooth, unfortunately, as only 6 months after the first flight, the runway was deemed unsafe for larger aircraft, such as an A320 and B737, which were used by the only two operators at the time, Ryanair and Wizz Air. After the runway maintenance was completed, Ryanair returned almost immediately to the airport, unlike Wizz Air, which returned to the airport in 2025.

The airport is served by the above-mentioned two airlines, with flights to over 50 destinations across Europe.
