iniBuilds’ recently announced Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (HAAB) rendition for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 has got its first trailer on YouTube, showcasing the upcoming product.
The airport was built in the 1960s to replace Lideta Airport because its runway was too short to accommodate the Boeing 720. By late 1962, the runway and the control tower were already fully operational, greatly aiding the growth of regional aviation in the area.
35 years later, the first expansion plan was announced, to be divided into three phases: the first would be comprised of a new, parallel runway and an expansion of the main one, phase two would include the construction of a new passenger terminal with a large parking area, and phase three would be the construction of a 38-meter-tall control tower, and new electrical equipment throughout.
By 2003, the aforementioned terminal had been inaugurated, making it one of Africa’s largest airport passenger terminals, handling about 3,000 passengers an hour.
Three years later, a new cargo terminal and maintenance hangar were opened, built to vastly improve Ethiopian’s (the airline) handling capacity, accommodating three to four aircraft at once.
Another expansion project was announced in 2010, bringing additional aircraft parking capacity (from 19 to 44), and was also divided into multiple phases.
The passenger terminal was once again expanded in 2022, allowing the airport to accommodate an additional 15 aircraft during its first stage, then 10, and finally 44 by the end of all expansion work.
The scenery promises an accurate rendition of the airport, with careful attention to detail, custom ground markings, realistic signage, true-to-life ground service equipment, and much more.
The development process is in its final stages, meaning it’s set for release soon.
