Featured on the Eagle Dynamics newsletter this week, Red Star Simulations has showcased some more of their upcoming Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-17 “Fresco” for DCS.

Reflected Campaigns also announced their new P-47D Eagles Rising Campaign, focusing on the 4th Fighter Group and the escort of bombers into occupied Europe during the Second World War.

As for Red Star Simulations, the post covers progress across systems, navigation, avionics, engines, sounds, flight model, damage model and more.

After previewing more of the VK-1F engine in March, Red Star Simulations has now continued work across aircraft systems, flight model, damage model and soundscape.

They say the module is entering the final stages of development, with their focus shifting from adding new features to pre-release tuning and testing.

Hydraulic and pneumatic systems are complete, covering normal and emergency operation, and the oxygen and cockpit pressurisation systems are fully finished.

Navigation and cockpit lighting have also been implemented, and the chronograph, secondary engine instruments, and most cockpit instrumentation are now complete, Red Star Simulations says.

A custom-designed kneeboard is also included in the upcoming module, with authentic Soviet styling, mission-specific reference pages, and new suspension and ground handling.

Red Star Simulations reports a fully functional P-800 VHF radio, and the ARK-5 Automatic Radio Compass has also been implemented, with Compass Antenna and Loop operating modes, with support for complete historical NDB instrument approaches in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC).

The SRD-1M gun radar is also undergoing final tuning.

A detailed overhaul of the VK-1F engine simulation has been completed, and the engine sound environment has been overhauled, using real-life recordings.

Moving on to the flight and damage models, Red Star Simulations says the flight and physics models are now feature-complete; however, they are still undergoing continuous refinement, including “improvements to the aerodynamic modelling, pilot control forces, adverse yaw, suspension, taxi behaviour, and overall aircraft handling”.

The damage model has matured, too, and structural damage will now directly affect aircraft handling.

Red Star Simulations has implemented damage modelling for fuel tanks, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, weapons, and cockpit equipment.

Fuel leaks, fires, smoke, and progressive system failures can…
